I actually like that dress in #1, especially the way it’s styled with the tall black boots. I adore houndstooth and other patterns that bring to mind old fashioned menswear fabrics, like glen plaid and tweed. These examples are fun and playful! I am a fan of houndstooth and have a few pieces of the traditional black and white. I also have a pair of tan and white houndstooth pants that I wear as a neutral, even with the large scale of the pattern. This outfit has interesting layers, and adds earthy olive and deep red to the graphic black and white. The skirt is an interesting combination of TWO patterns.

I love a good houndstooth print (bonus for non black & white ones for myself;-) Outfit three and four are my favourites here. I used to like the black and white versions but now I’d prefer a lower contrast version, like black and tan. Coincidentally, I wore my houndstooth jacket with jeans today. I have some grey and black houndstooth leggings. I previously had a white/black houndstooth short hip length coat that I loved and wore it until it got a bit shabby and I had to let it go.

If black and white houndstooth is not your thing, feel free to sub the doggietooth for a colour that’s more to your taste. A lovely classic pattern, but not on me (very striking graphic designs tends to overwhelm, & a bold black & white is a little too stark on me). I love the graphic qualities of houndstooth, though I don’t have any in my closet at the moment, since I wore a print houndstooth skirt into the ground.
